Mahoning Valley
TreeCorps

Mahoning Valley TreeCorps is a collaborative initiative led by Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation, TNP, Youngstown CityScape, the Healthy Community Partnership, and many community partners. Its mission is to restore and sustain the urban tree canopy in Warren and Youngstown to improve health and ensure the urban forest is accessible to all.

The BABW Team Serves in Four Major Categories

The BABW Team contributes to community revitalization through hands-on work that transforms neglected spaces.

01
Benefits of Trees
Shade trees reduce air pollution from cars and factories, provide needed summer shade, cool your home and reduce energy bills, encourage outdoor physical activity, improve mental health and wellness, improve property values, and have even shown to help reduce crime.

* Trees are not planted in private yards, unmaintained/abandoned lots, or areas without regular upkeep.

* TreeCorps provides three years of care, including watering, pruning, staking, and maintenance to ensure tree survival.

02
Planting Locations and Information
Mahoning Valley TreeCorps plants free shade trees (2” caliper, 8-14 feet tall) in publicly accessible spaces to provide lasting canopy cover. Species are selected based on site conditions and municipal Arbor Commission guidelines. Trees are planted in:
02
City parks, boulevards, and medians
02
Tree lawns/devil strips with adjacent neighbor approval
02
Community greenspaces including lots cared for by residents and lawns at businesses schools, churches, and institutions

Request a Tree!

Interested in having a tree planted in your tree lawn?

Fill out our form below or contact Lydia Lynch by e-mail or phone at 330-647-6301 x 108.

Filling out a request form does not guarantee a tree will be planted. Many factors play a role in where the trees can be planted such as: underground utilities, space available, and proximity to signs, driveways, or intersections. The TreeCorps project team will evaluate each request.

This project is made possible through a grant from the USDA Forest Service. This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
